Grave Site Location Surveys
A geophysical technique called ground penetrating radar (GPR) provides a method for grave site location that is quick and efficient. Our GPR survey crew can cover large areas in a day depending on the terrain and vegetation cover.
Grave Site Location - Introduction
Ground penetrating radar surveys are useful for grave site location. GPR can detect the coffin or the person if there is no coffin, objects buried with the person, or the burial trench into which the coffin or body was placed. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is operated above the ground surface, and produces a cross-sectional image on the screen of the grave site that is underground.
GPR surveys for grave site location are conducted using SIR-2 equipment and various antennas with frequencies ranging from 200 to 900 MHz. Depths of penetration and the detail of the image observed is determined by the antenna that is used when conducting the survey. A low frequency antenna (200 MHz or less) will examine the subsurface depths up to 45 feet. A higher frequency antenna (400 MHz or higher) can examine the near surface in great detail.
